Proverbs 31
The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him:
What, O my son?
And what, O son of my womb?
And what, O son of my vows?
Do not give your strength to women,
Or your ways to that which destroys kings.
It is not for kings, O lemnuel,
It is not for kings to drink wine,
Or for rulers to desire strong drink,
For they will drink and forget what is decreed,
And pervert the rights of all the afflicted.
Give strong drink to him who is perishing,
And wine to him whose life is bitter.
Let him drink and forget his poverty
And remember his trouble no more.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.
An excellent wife, who can find?
For her worth is far above jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
And he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
She looks for wool and flax
And works with her hands in delight.
She is like merchant ships;
She brings her food from afar.
She rises also while it is still night
And gives food to her household
And portions to her maidens.
She considers a field and buys it;
From her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She girds herself with strength
And makes her arms strong.
She senses that her gain is good;
Her lamp does not go out at night.
She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hands grasp the spindle.
She extends her hand to the poor,
And she stretches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household,
For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
She makes coverings for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies belts to the tradesmen.
Sttrength and dignity are her clothing,
And she smiles at the future.
She opens her mouth in wisdom,
And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness,
Her children rise up and bless her, saying:
"Many daughters have done nobly,
But you excel them all."
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
Give her the product of her hands,
And let her works praise her in the gates.

Proverbs 30
The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, the oracle.
The man declares to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal:
Surely I am more stupid than any man,
And I do not have the understanding of a man.
Neither have I learned wisdom,
Nor do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.
Who has ascended into heaven and descended?
Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has wrapped the waters in His garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is His name or His son's name?
Surely you know!
Every word of God is tested;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words
Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.
Two things I asked of You,
Do not refuse me before I die:
Keep deception and lies far from me,
Give me neither poverty nor riches;
Feed me with the food that is my portion,
that I not be full and deny You and say, "Who is the LORD?"
Or that I not be in want and steal,
And profane the name of my God.
do not slander a slave to his master,
Or he will curse you and you will be found guilty.
There is a kind of man who curses his father
And does not bless his mother.
There is a kind who is pure in his own eyes,
Yet is not washed from his filthiness.
There is a kind--oh how lofty are his eyes!
And his eyelids are raised in arrogance.
There is a kind of man whose teeth are like swords
And his jaw teeth like knives,
to devour the afflicted from the earth
And the needy from among men.
The leech has two daughters,
"Give," "Give."
There are three things that will not be satisfied,
Four that will not say, "Enough":
Sheol, and the barren womb,
Earth that is never satisfied with water,
And fire that never says, "Enough."
The eye that mocks a father
And scorns a mother,
The ravens of the valley will pick it out,
And the young eagles will eat it.
there are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Four which I do not understand:
The way of an eagle in the sky,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
the way of a ship in the middle of the sea,
And the way of a man with a maid.
This is the way of an adulterous woman:
She eats and wipes her mouth,
And says, "I have done no wrong."
Under three things the earth quakes,
And under four, it cannot bear up
Under a slave when he becomes king,
And a fool when he is satisfied with food,
Under an unloved woman when she gets a husband,
And a maidservant when she supplants her mistress.
Four things are small on the earth,
But they are exceedingly wise:
The ants are not a strong people,
But they prepare their food in the summer;
The shephanim (badgers) are not mighty people,
Yet they make their houses in the rocks;
The locusts have no king,
Yet all of them go out in ranks;
The lizard you may grasp with the hands,
Yet it is in kings' palaces.
There are three things which are stately in their march,
Even four which are stately when they walk:
The lion which is mighty among beasts
And does not retreat before any,
the strutting rooster, the male goat also,
And a king when his army is with him.
If you have been foolish in exalting yourself
Or if you have plotted evil, put your hand on your mouth.
For the churning of milk produces butter,
And pressing the nose brings forth blood;
So the churning of anger produces strife.

Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice,
But when a wicked man rules, people groan.
A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad,
But he who keeps company with harlots wastes his wealth.
The king gives stability to the land by justice,
But a man who takes bribes overthrows it.
A man who flatters his neighbor
Is spreading a net for his steps.
By transgression an evil man is ensnared,
But the righteous sings and rejoices.
The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor,
The wicked does not understand such concern.
Scorners set a city aflame,
But wise men turn away anger.
When a wise man has a controversy with a foolish man,
the foolish man either rages or laughs, and there is no rest.
Men of bloodshed hate the blameless,
But the upright are concerned for his life.
A fool always loses his temper,
But a wise man holds it back.
If a ruler pays attention to falsehood,
All his ministers become wicked.
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:
The LORD gives light to the eyes of both.
If a ing judges the poor with truth,
His throne will be established forever.
The rod and reproof give wisdom,
But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.
When the wicked increase, transgression increases;
But the righteous will see their fall.
Correct your son, and he will give you comfort;
He will also delight your soul.
Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained,
But happy is he who keeps the law.
A slave will not be instructed by words alone;
For though he understands, there will be no response.
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
He who pampers his slave from childhood
Will in the end find him to be a son.
An angry man stirs up strife,
And a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.
A man's pride will bring him low,
But a humble spirit will obtain honor.
He who is a partner with a thief hates his own life;
He hears the oath but tells nothing.
The fear of man brings a snare,
But he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted.
Many seek the ruler's favor,
But justice for man comes from the LORD.
An unjust man is abominable to the righteous,
And he who is upright in the way is abominable to the wicked.

The wicked will flee when no one is pursuing,
But the righteous are bold as a lion.
by the transgression of a land many are its princes,
But by a man of understanding and knowledge, so it endures.
A poor man who oppresses the lowly
Is like a driving rain which leaves no food.
Those who forsake the law strive with them.
Evil men do not understand justice,
But those who seek the LORD understand all things.
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than he who is crooked though he be rich.
He who keeps the law is a discerning son,
But he who is a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.
He who increases his wealth by interest and usury
Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor.
He who turns away his ear from listening to the law,
Even his prayer is an abomination.
He who leads the upright astray in an evil way
Will himself fall into his own pit,But the blameless will inherit good.
The rich man is wise in his own eyes,
But the poor who has understanding sees through him.
When the righteous triumph, there is great glory,
But when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.
He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.
How blessed is the man who fears always,
But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
Like a roaring lion and a rushing bear
Is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding,
But he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.
A man who is laden with the guilt of human blood
Will be a fugitive until death; let no one support him.
He who walks blamelessly will be delivered,
But he who is crooked will fall all at once.
He who tills his land will have plenty of food,
But he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty.
A faithful man will abound with blessings,
But he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished.
to show partiality is not good,
Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.
A man with an evil eye hastens after wealth
And does not know that want will come upon him.
He who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor
Than he who flatters with the ongue.
He who robs his father or his mother
And says, "It is not a transgression,"
Is the companion of a man who destroys.
An arrogant man stirs up strife,
But he who trusts in the LOrD will prosper.
He who trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But he who walks wisely will be delivered.

But he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.

But the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.

But who can stand before jealousy?
Better is open rebuke
Than love that is concealed.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
A sated man loathes honey,
But to a famished man any bitter thing is sweet.
Like a bird that wanders from her nest,
So is a man who wanders from his home.
Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
So a man's counsel is sweet to his friend.
Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend,
And do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity;
Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far away.
Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad.
That I may reply to him who reproaches me.
A prudent man sees evil and hides himself,
the naive proceed and pay the penaly.
Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger;
And for an adulterous woman hold him in pledge.

So the heart of man reflects man.

The crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold,
And each is tested by the praise accorded him.
Though you pound a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain,
Yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

For riches are not forever,
Nor does a crown endure to all generations.
When the grass disappears, the new growth is seen,
And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in,
The lambs will be for your clothing,

Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest,
So honor is not fitting for a fool.
Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,
So a curse without cause does not alight.
A ship is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,
And a rod for the back of fools.
Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
Or you will also be like him.
Answer a fool as his folly deserves,
That he not be wise in his own eyes.
He cuts off his own feet and drinks violence
Who sends a message by the hand of a fool.
Like the legs which are useless to the lame,
So is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
Like one who binds a stone in a sling,
So is he who gives honor to a fool.
Like a thorn which falls into the hand of a drunkard,
So is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
Like an archer who wounds everyone,
So is he who hires a fool or who hires those who pass by.

Is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him.
Like a madman who throws
Firebrands, arrows and death,
So is the man who deceives his neighbor,
And says, "Was I not joking?"
For lack of wood the fire goes out,
And where there is no whisperer, contention quiets down.
Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire,
So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
The words of a whisperer are like dainty moresel,
And they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
Like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross
Are burning lips and a wicked heart.
He who hates disguises it with his lips,
But he lays up deceit in his heart.
When he speaks graciously, do not believe him,
For there are seven abominations of the heart,
Though his hatred covers itself with guile,
His wickedness will be revealed before the assembly.
He who digs a pit will fall into it,
And he who rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
A lying tongue hates those it crushes,
And a flattering mouth works ruin.

These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men
of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transcribed.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
As the heavens for height and the earth for depth,
So the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Take way the dross from the silver,
And ther comes out a vessel for the smith;
Take away the wicked before the king,
And this throne will be established in righteousness.
Do not claim honor in the presence of the king,

And the rod of his fury will perish.
He who is generous will be blessed,
For he gives some of his food to the poor.
Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out,
Even strife and dishonor will cease.
He who loves purity of heart
And whose speech is gracious, the king is his friend.

But He overthrows the words of the treacherous man.

NEW Creation
New in Christ!
I knew nothing before
compared to what I know
I don't know now;
But new as the dew each day
I struggle to be new again,
to be born over and over.
Yet who gives birth to self?
Me! Giving birth to the old
while He gives birth to newness of life,
Newing my mind again.
I never knew before love and grace,
But He knew me before I knew anything.
Now I die
to self each day
to be made new!
That new Christian smell--
a fragrant offering to the Creator of all things new--
Even this wretched flesh,
All things new!

Proverbs 19
Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity
than he who is perverse in speech and is a fool.
Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge,
And he who hurries his footsteps errs.
The foolishness of man ruins his way,
And his heart rages against the LORD.
Wealth adds many friends,
But a poor man is separated from his friend.
A false witness will not go unpunished,
And he who tells lies will not escape.
Many will seek the favor of a generous man,
And every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.
All the brothers of a poor man hate him;
How much more do his friends abandon him!
he pursues them with words, but they are gone.
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
He who keeps understanding will find good.
A false witness will not go unpunished,
And he who tells lies will perish.
Luxury is not fitting for a fool;
Much less for a slave to rule over princes.
A man's discretion makes him slow to anger,
And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.
The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion,
But his favor is like dew on the grass.

And the contentions of a wife are a constant dripping.
House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers,

I love the verse regarding a man's mouth being deep waters, with the fountain of wisdom being a babbling brook. With our mouths we can produce some salty speech. I've let forth plenty of stingers as if I were spewing jellyfish. While deep waters are beautiful and mysterious, we know danger can lurk well below the surface and while a pretty scene, an ocean will not quench our thirst and sustain us. On the other hand, wisdom is a babbling brook, clean water, refreshing. The brook is good to drink without concern of salty pollutants, jellyfish, jaws and such.
Further in the proverb, we are warned about striving to quench our thirst with the ocean.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
While the proverb isn't instructing us to close our ears to human speech, it does speak to the inclination of living for the approving tongue of others. If one lives upon the words of others, one will live on saltwater, never fully satisfying; but if one lives upon the words of God, from the fountain of wisdom, one will live on the bubbling brook of crystal waters.
Jesus told the woman at the well, "...whoever drinks from the water I give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."
We have as Christians that living water indwelling in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, that we may have spiritual life--the Word of God within us! Why do I measure my worth upon the words from a man's mouth when I should be drinking from the Spirit? By His word, I am beloved, I am cherished, adopted as a son, sought after, holy! Hide His word in your hearts, that it will become a well of water springing up to eternal life!

Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool,
Much less are lying lips to a prince.
A bribe is a charm in the sight of its owner;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.
He who conceals a transgression seeks love,
But he who repeats a matte separates intimate friends.
A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding
Than a hundred blows into a fool.

Proverbs
OK, I haven't typed all the Proverbs to date this July, but will keep typing until I catch up. I do want to take some time to update something new in what I've learned from the experience. By typing out what I was reading, I was drawn more to the attention of the capitalization of the LORD. I've read and heard commentaries regarding the use of Lord versus LORD, God and Father and I AM, but I don't care to expand on that, though I do encourage your study of that if you haven't already.
What I found interesting was that being all caps, I had to either choose to ignore it or take the time to shift on both sides of the keyboard, or take the time to turn the all caps off and on, or shift with my right and stretch my left hand fingers...whatever I chose, typing LORD often forced my head down to the keyboard and took the greatest time of any other four letter combination I've typed.
Is it ironic or fitting that the style of LORD causes me to bough and concentrate on His name? I'm going with fitting...

Proverbs 16
The plans of the heart belong to man,
But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight,
But the LORD weighs the motives.
Commit your works to the LORD
And your plans will be established.
The LORD has made everything for its own purpose,
Even the wicked for the day of evil.
Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD;
Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.
By lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for,
And by the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil.
When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Better is a little with righteousness
Than great income with injustice.
The mind of man plans his way,
But the LORD directs his steps.
A divine decisioin is in the lips of the king;
His mouth should not err in judgment.
A just balance and scales belong to the LORD;
All the weights of the bag are His concern.
It is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts,
For a throne is established on righteousness.
righteous lips are the delight of kings,
And he who speaks right is loved.
The fury of a king is like messengers of death,
But a wise man will appease it.
In the light of a king's face is life,

A Mile for Donuts
A Mile for Donuts
The only key-lime donut of which I’m aware resides 1.1 miles from my location. I like them, but my metabolism is not what it was 25 years ago. I made a plan of redemption for the caloric intake of the “heaven” that is key-lime donuts. I walked to the donut shop instead of taking a combustible engine. A 2.2 mile round trip by my calorie-meter burns approximately 4,200 calories (please don’t refer me to any scientifically based caloric computations.)
I hooked my head up to my iPod, set the playlist to worship tunes and stepped out the door. The sun shone for the first time in days, a sign of blessing at first, but after about a tenth of a mile, I realized this was more than a blessing. Combined with the humidity, the Sun provided me with a natural sauna to help me sweat off more weight to give me room for an extra donut!
I did work up a bit of perspiration traversing the sandy desert, littered with weeds in rolling water, kissing my toes before scurrying back from whence it came. I hiked through a dune and across the road to my destination—Thomas Donut and Snacks. I ordered a couple dozen to feed the hungry crew back at the house.
Twenty-four donuts does not seem like a heavy load—unless one were to eat all of them—but carrying them for more than 10 to 15 feet to and from the car can give one a real feeling of why one must walk 2 miles to attempt working one of them off. I was listening to a David Crowder song when God seemed to be nudging me to sing along. I know that I’m not supposed to be ashamed of Him, but I must confess, I was a bit hesitant to open up my lungs and bring forth praise to him while carrying a pink box of donuts on the side of the road. What would people think?
After joining in on the chorus and not being able to catch my breath for all the words, I realized I had more to worry about. I knew what anyone listening would think: “Who is that crazy guy over there, singing about Jesus, while about to keel over on the side of the road?”
Then I thought, hey, wouldn’t it be cool if Christians everywhere sang while oblivious to the world around them, so that everyone would see how unashamed we are of Jesus Christ! Then I met people along the way who said, “Good morning!”
Would it have been proper of me to return the greeting with an out of tune, half-breathed worship song without any background vocals? I made a quick theological, Miss Manners, Christian, legalism, liberalism debate in my head and then replied: “Good morning!”
Was I embarrassed by God or my own singing? Was this a conviction or a legalistic notion in my head? God answered me after letting me think about it through passing a few others and singing when I could catch my breath.
I was coming upon some neighbors in their driveway when Francesca Battistelli started singing. Should I wave a good morning or sing along? Should I say, “Good morning!” Should I—oh, God, you are funny. I don’t get the point yet, but I do get the joke. Maybe that is the point—should I sing to them: “When I was just a girl…thought I had it all figured out…”
I said, “Good morning,” without feeling any condemnation. There is a point to realizing God has a sense of humor, but after getting back to the house, cooling off and enjoying a few bites of key lime heaven, I realized the whole morning experience as a complete piece. I was carrying my burden on a hot day and God nudged me to give Him praise—to relieve my burden by focusing on Him. I did not get worn out from holding a heavy box of donuts (I am not the man of envy at the gym.) I did focus the rest of my journey on God and what He would want me to do. But then I started becoming legalistic about what the Spirit nudged me to do, and God let me talk to Him about it a bit and then ultimately laid out a humorous illustration for me.
It’s not about the burden. It’s not about my self-righteousness or ability to keep to the rules of religion. It’s about enjoying time with God, a walk with the Spirit, a key lime donut with Jesus. It’s all about Him!
Ironically, in my reading of the Word today, which I chose to read after my walk and writing the body of this note:
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
And he who is wise wins souls.
if the righteous will be rewarded in the earth,
How much more the wicked and the sinner!
Proverbs 10
The tenth Proverb references physical hunger, food, harvest, and wealth in general truths. For example, in verse 4, Solomon mentions that a diligent hand makes one rich. This is a general truth in that, generally speaking, if someone works hard, they will reap financial reward; but we know there are many exceptions of people who work hard, but go unrecognized, or get laid off due to a sour economy. Generally speaking though, wise counsel is to work hard to get ahead, not lie, cheat and steal to get to the top--that strategy may work on a show like "Survivor," but in the real world, we must live with the consequences of our actions after reaching toward a goal. In real life, one needs support of peers and upper management to "move up." One may argue it's who you know, or other theories, but in the end, what is the advice you would give your son or daughter: "Get by with just what you have to and make sure you know the right folks," or "Work hard and do your best so you will get to know who you need to know and they will think well of you?" I choose the latter along with Solomon.
Now, having said that, I think it is quite interesting to pull these general truths regarding life in this world to absolute truths of living in the Spirit. The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, but He will reject the craving of the wicked. In this we understand that the righteous will sometimes hunger for food because of famine, poverty, governmental oppression or other worldly factors; but in a heavenly view, Jesus is the Bread of Life. Those who partake of Him will never hunger spiritually. Likewise, he'll quench our thirst with living water. But the wicked hunger in their soul for peace and love, but by rejecting God, they reject the Prince of Peace and the source of love. How can a depraved world fill the craving for wholeness while rejecting Jesus who holds everything together?
Solomon also speaks of the mouth of the righteous as a fountain of life, but warns before that of the son who sleeps at harvest, which is shameful. It is shameful for a farm boy to sleep while the rest of the family is bringing in the harvest, but let's take a look at it from a spiritual perspective. Jesus said that the workers are few for the harvest. He made Peter and the disciples fishers of men. He is not interested in how much wheat we can produce; Jesus is interested in our work in the harvest of souls for the Kingdom of Heaven. Should we rest and relax in comfort of our blessings while a broken world is ripe for the harvest? As a farmer takes up the combine or in older times the sickle, we must wield the Gospel of Jesus. While the blade of the Gospel may cut, it brings into the fold added ingredients to the Bread of Life. Once cut to the heart, the harvest then gets the heart of the harvester through the miracle of the Holy Spirit. How shameful it would be for us to then sleep instead of going to take the harvest to others!
Consider yourself in verse 15 and Jesus in verse 16. Take to heart the call for the righteous lips to feed many in verse 21. Let your mouth bring forth what is acceptable and not perverted. Feed a hungry world.

Proverbs 9
This proverb takes Wisdom into contrast with humanistic wisdom, or in today's terms: God's Word, the Bible in contrast to human logic and reason. For those who follow Christ, stating that God's words are right on target lines up with our stated belief in the Bible and God's wisdom. Unfortunately, I don't always take God's advice, though. Sometimes I rely on my own logic, which gives me the following true account of the wisdom of this proverb.
Solomon instructs not to reprove a scoffer or he will hate you. I somewhat recently reproved an atheist
who was mocking scripture. He was a "friend" and I wanted to correct him and turn him to the truth. I also didn't want him leading others of my friends along the path to "Sheol," or death. Ultimately, I got called a lot of names, including "newt" and "idiot." In the end, I committed to praying for him and for a healing of the bitterness of heart he had. He took my gesture of broken-hearted compassion as a retort, assured me he wasn't bitter, and sent me a video mocking Christianity.
I do continue to pray for him frequently, but before you celebrate my piety with me, I must confess that I wasn't heeding God's instructions through Solomon's words. He instructs not to reprove a scoffer. He doesn't say not to stand up for Jesus, or speak the truth, but reproof should be for those committing to follow Him.
"Teach a righteous man and you will increase his learning."
I don't need to shy away from sharing the Gospel--I think that is how Wisdom calls to those living in "folly." What Solomon, and ultimately, God through His word, is intending here, though, is correction and rebuke. Paul told Timothy that all scripture is useful for teaching, rebuking and training in righteousness so the THE MAN OF GOD may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. We should share the Truth, the Way and the Life with the world, but when those opposed to God, mock him, should we be surprised? Giving them reproof is useless if they have no faith in the One who gave us the law--the code by which the proofs stand.
Please forgive me, God, for my self-righteous attitude toward those who oppose You. Help me to speak the truth in love to all, to teach accurately those who have chosen to follow You, and to love with true compassion those who have rejected Jesus.

Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser.
Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you alone will bear it.
The woman of folly is boisterous,
She is naive and knows nothing.
She sits at the doorway of her house,
On a seat by the high places of the city,
Calling to those who pass by,
Who are making their paths straight:

"Stolen water is sweet;
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant."

Proverbs 8
Proverbs 8 is the antithesis of number 7. Theologians, psychiatrists, philosophers, and even some semi-coherant thinkers throughout the ages have known that just resolving to abstain from something is not enough to change behavior. Desire for wrong has to be replaced by desire for the right. Desire will not die so long as we are "alive." Even in those individuals who seem to have hit a low spot and are seemingly apathetic to the world around them--they, too, have desires if we searched their souls completely. We may desire wrong things and right things, but desire is like breathing--we do it without conscious thinking.
The Gospel of Christ is not behavior modification, but a complete paradigm shift of desire.
Forget about what we are not supposed to desire. We are supposed to desire Christ! Jesus is the Word in the flesh. He is the embodiment of the wisdom of the proverbs--He is Proverbs! He is Genesis. He is Revelation and everything in between.
"Does not wisdom call...?" While the proverb is a personification of Wisdom, what is the beginning of wisdom--the reverent fear of the Lord. To revere Jesus is to revere God. Through Jesus, the dust of this world was created, the oceans, the stars, the animals, the plants, you and me. Don't seek what is pleasing to the eye in Proverbs 7; seek what brings life in Proverbs 8. Seek Jesus and find life in Him--in the Spirit. Hate Jesus and love death.
How can we choose what is pleasing to the eye, good to eat or educational over life in Jesus Christ Himself--life as sons and daughters of the Creator of all things! I love Jesus! I love life!

And understanding lift up her voice?
On top of the heights beside the way,
Where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
Beside the gates, at the opening to the city,
At the entrance of the doors, she cries out:
"To you, O men, I call,
And my voice is to the sons of men.
"O naive ones, understand prudence;
And, O fools, understand wisdom.
"Listen, for I will speak noble things;
And the opening of my lips will reveal right things.
"For my mouth will utter truth;
And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
"All the utterances of my mouth are in righteousness;
There is nothing crooked or perverted in them.
"They are all straightforward to him who understands,
And right to those who find knowledge.
"Take my instruction and not silver,
And knowledge rather than choicest gold.
"For wisdom is better than jewels;
And all desirable things cannot compare with her.
"I wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And I find knowledge and discretion.
"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverted mouth, I hate.
"Counsel is mine and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, power is mine.
"By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.
"By me princes rule, and nobles,
All who judge rightly.
"I love those who love me;
And those who diligently seek me will find me.
"Riches and honor are with me,
Enduring wealth and righteousness.
"My fruit is better than gold, even pure gold,
And my yield better than choicest silver.
"I walk in the way of righteousness,
In the midst of the paths of justice,
To endow those who love me with wealth,
That I may fill their treasuries.
The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way,
Before His works of old.
"From everlasting I was established,
From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.
"When there were no depths I was brought forth,
When there were no springs abounding with water.
"Before the mountains were settled,
Before the hills I was brought forth;
While He had not yet made the earth and the fields,
Nor the first dust of the world.
"When He established the Heavens, I was there,
When he inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,
When He made firm the skies above,
When the springs of the deep became fixed,
When He set for the sea its boundary
So that the water would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth;
Then I was beside Him, as a master workman;
And I was daily His delight,
Rejoicing always before Him,
Rejoicing in the world, His earth,
And having my delight in the sons of men.
"Now therefore, O sons, listen to me,
For blessed are they who keep my ways.
"Heed instruction and be wise,

Proverbs 7
While proverbs leading to this have instructed purity, this one really drives home the allure of adultery as a mask covering the bondage and death underneath. Eve saw that the fruit in the garden was good to eat, pleasing to the eye and useful for gaining knowledge and wisdom. I won't delve into Adam's sin of omission in the event, but often we, as men, get onto Eve for falling for something shiny and pleasing to the eye. How could she trade Heaven for a bite of forbidden fruit and death?
We men should be a bit more introspective and examine our own tendencies to lust over forbidden fruit. Satan is prowling like a lion, seeking to kill and destroy. Swimsuit models, billboard images, waitresses at establishments with provocative names--pleasing to the eye; but Jesus spoke of the heart. If we lust after these images in our hearts, we have been led in chains by fools who are opposed to God. We are led to the slaughter, facing arrows from Satan defining beauty based on image. God judges the heart, not the art of the photoshop brush.
Do not be ensnared by the sex sold through the images from the TV, billboards, magazines and the culture. They draw attention from the love of your youth. They draw attention from your leading that beauty to see her beauty in Christ! They draw attention from leading your sons to value their mothers and your daughters from valuing their own beauty in Christ. What are the young women in your life learning from you in regards to how she should interact with men? How should she expect men to treat her?
What seems to be a simple indulgence in looking at images that may be 'pleasing to the eye' may ensnare you to bring death and pain to your family. Why choose the harlot over your wife, your family? Who is the 'apple' of your eyes?

that they may keep you from an adulteress,
From the foreigner who flatters with her words.
For at the window of my house
I looked out through my lattice,
And I saw among the naive,
And discerned among the youths
A young man lacking sense,
Passing through the street near her corner;
And he takes the way to her house,
In the twilight , in the evening,
In the middle of the night and in the darkness,
And behold, a woman comes to meet him,
Dressed as a harlot and cunning of heart.
She is boisterous and rebellious,
Her feet do not remain at home;
She is now in the streets, now in the squares,
And lurks by every corner.
So she seizes him and kisses him
And with a brazen face she says to him:
"I was due to offer peace offerings;
Today I have paid my vows.
"Therefore I have come out to meet you,
To seek your presence earnestly, and I have found you.
"I have spread my couch with coverings,
With colored linens of Egypt.
"I have sprinkled my bed
With myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.
"Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning;
Let us delight ourselves with caresses.
"For my husband is not at home,
He has gone on a long journey;
He has taken a bag of money with him,
At the full moon he will come home."
With her many persuasions she entices him;
With her flattering lips she seduces him.
Suddenly he follows her
As an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as one in fetters to the discipline of a fool,
Until an arrow pierces through his liver;
As a bird hastens to the snare,
So he does not know that it will cost him his life.
Now therefore, my sons, listen to me,
And pay attention to the words of my mouth.
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths.
For many are the victims she has cast down,
And numerous are all her slain.
Her house is the way to Sheol,
Descending to the chambers of death.
We men should be a bit more introspective and examine our own tendencies to lust over forbidden fruit. Satan is prowling like a lion, seeking to kill and destroy. Swimsuit models, billboard images, waitresses at establishments with provocative names--pleasing to the eye; but Jesus spoke of the heart. If we lust after these images in our hearts, we have been led in chains by fools who are opposed to God. We are led to the slaughter, facing arrows from Satan defining beauty based on image. God judges the heart, not the art of the photoshop brush.
Do not be ensnared by the sex sold through the images from the TV, billboards, magazines and the culture. They draw attention from the love of your youth. They draw attention from your leading that beauty to see her beauty in Christ! They draw attention from leading your sons to value their mothers and your daughters from valuing their own beauty in Christ. What are the young women in your life learning from you in regards to how she should interact with men? How should she expect men to treat her?
What seems to be a simple indulgence in looking at images that may be 'pleasing to the eye' may ensnare you to bring death and pain to your family. Why choose the harlot over your wife, your family? Who is the 'apple' of your eyes?

What do I write When my heart lies ripped
When my heart lies
How do I cry out
with my spirit ripped
When I'm ripped from my soul
God, I want to pour
what you've poured into me
Pour into your body
God, I want to glorify
You blockade my zeal
You thwart my plans
when my pen is dry
A tool without a point
How do I confess
with no guts to check

Pour all at Your feet

Proverbs 6
My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor,
Have given a pledge for a stranger,
If you have been snared with the words of your mouth,
Have been caught with the words of your mouth,
Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself;
Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor,
Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor.
Give no sleep to your eyes,
Nor slumber to your eyelids;
Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand
And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Go to the ant, O sluggard,
Observe her ways and be wise,
Which, having no chief,
Officer or ruler,
Prepares her food in the summer
And gathers her provision in the harvest.
How long will you lie down, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
"A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest"--
Your poverty will come in like a vagabond
And your need like an armed man.
A worthless person, a wicked man,
Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth,
Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet,
Who points with his fingers;
Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil,
Who spreads strife.
Therefore his calamity will come suddenly;
Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.
There are six things which the Lord hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers.
My son, observe the commandment of your father
And do not forsake the teaching of your mother;
Bind them continually on your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
When you walk about, they will guide you;
When you sleep, they will watch over you;
And when you awake, they will talk to you.
For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light;
And reproofs for discipline are the way of life
To keep you from the evil woman,
From the smooth tongue of the adulteress.
Do not desire her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her capture you with her eyelids.
For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread,
And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.
Can a man take fire in his bosom
And his clothes not be burned?
Or can a man walk on hot coals
And his feet not be scorched?
So is the one who goes in to his neighbor's wife;
Whoever touches her will not go unpunished.
Men do not despise a thief if he steals
to satisfy himself when he is hungry;
But when he is found, he must repay sevenfold;
He must give all the substance of his house.
The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense;
He who would destroy himself does it.
Wounds and disgrace he will find,
And his reproach will not be blotted out.
For jealousy enrages a man,
And he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
He will not accept any ransom,
Nor will he be satisfied though you give many gifts.
